Clinical Competency Committee meetings are among the most consequential responsibilities entrusted to a graduate medical education training program. The conversations held within that room influence how a trainee’s performance is understood, how concerns are addressed, and how readiness for progressive responsibility is determined. Yet meaningful CCC work cannot be reduced to reviewing Milestones, moving through an agenda, or reaching consensus before the meeting ends. It requires a deliberate process grounded in sound preparation, thoughtful judgment, equitable discussion, and appropriate supporting documentation that can withstand scrutiny.
The GME Compass CCC Deep Dive is an elevated, interactive learning experience designed for GME professionals and who are ready to examine not only how their committee functions, but how effectively it fulfills its purpose. Together, we will move beyond procedural compliance to explore the practices that strengthen committee dialogue, support well-reasoned and defensible decisions, and create greater consistency across the assessment process. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the CCC’s responsibility and practical insight they can apply to strengthen preparation, participation, decision-making, and follow-through within their own programs. When CCC decisions carry this much weight, the process deserves more than a routine approach.
